Does it smell sweet in Cologne?

A stretch of road not far from Cologne centrum. It is obvious that there is less money around for general maintenance than in the northern parts of the country!

Had an exhausting day in the surprisingly hilly area between Wuppertal and Köln, and covering the approx 45 km took me almost 8 hours. Partly, this was due to my lazy moods, partly to some truly appealing scenery that just required a million stops to take pictures, but really, the biggest cause for the slow progress were the hills that had appeared from nowhere. Indeed, they reminded me more than a little of the first couple of weeks of this journey, when traversing Sweden I almost lost my faith in ever getting anywhere!

My first look at Cologne skyline. Even from this distance, the cathedral ( at far left) really is impressive.

However, at the end of the day I did reach this city that is famous not only for its cathedral, but also for the fragrance. So far, I have not smelled anything extraordinary here, but the hot and humid air is definitely making one need some kind of deodorant!

Dancers at the Sótango milonga.

Just got back from dancing a at Sótango, a dance school very close to my hostel that does a twice-weekly milonga. Unfortunately it turned out to be one of those evenings where there are a lot more women than  men, and as a result only danced a couple of tandas. Tomorrow will go take a loot at the city.

  1. Have a good trip. Hopefully there will be more men next time so that you can have more dances...
